A Warrior emblem, when used, unlocks a mercenary that can join your party. They start at the same level as you when you use the Warrior Emblem. They have a random class and about three random skills. As mercenaries start with barely any skills, Awakening Emblems are extremely useful for unlocking new skills that aid you in combat.
